2021 - Year of Science and Technology
On February 8, 2021, the Day of Russian Science, the official opening ceremony of the Year of Science and Technology, announced by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation of December 25, 2020 No. 812, took place.
Within the framework of the solemn ceremony, the PIK reactor was launched in the power mode of operation at the St. President of the country Vladimir Putin, who was present at the event remotely, launched the reactor. Once launched, the reactor became the world's most powerful neutron accelerator.
PIK is one of four megascience-class installations, which, according to the Nauka national project, will be commissioned by 2024. Thanks to these scientific complexes, it will be possible to conduct unique research of a high degree of complexity.
Another of the priorities of the national project "Science" is to support young scientists. Young scientists (under 35) are annually awarded the Presidential Prize for their significant contribution to the development of domestic science, the development of samples of new equipment and technologies that ensure the innovative development of the economy and social sphere.
